First and Foremost, Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, and fathers-soon-to-be!!! And most importantly, Happy Father’s Day to my wonderful Dad!!
Anyone so lucky to know my dad knows he is ADORED and HONORED by his beautiful wife and dearly LOVED by his five kids!!
My entire life I have looked up to him, literally and figuratively. My dad is a very tall man and when he walks into a room he naturally draws eyes. He is athletic, he is strong, and he is handsome. He is so loved and respected because of his incredible heart and good name! I have had the honor of watching my dad love and provide for our family through keen intellect, incredible principles, and the sweat of his brow. I have also had the incredibly humbling opportunity to watch him care and sacrifice for others. Additionally, I have yet to meet a man who quietly and selflessly loves his fellow neighbor as humbly as my dad. Someday I hope to write as much as I can of the countless acts of service and selfless love he has shown friends, family, and complete strangers.
I would, however, like to share one of my most fond childhood memories of my dad’s unconditional love!
This is not a specific event at a specific date. It is, however, a life-changing, intentional, act of love my dad did for me and my other siblings almost every day.
He prayed.
It is so simple, yet so profound.
My dad prayed with me before bed each night. I can still recall as a tiny little girl, having my giant-like father kneel beside me and invite me into the intimate communication with his Heavenly Father. Fast forward to high school, my dad served in the Colorado State Senate. Mornings were very early and evenings were often very late. Nevertheless, my dad still prayed. Fast forward even more, now I am married! My husband and I do not yet have children, but I am so giddy to one day see my dear husband kneel beside our children’s beds and pray. I’m so thankful for the example my dad has set for his posterity! I pray they are impacted by his simple, yet profound, act of obedience–prayer.
Happy Father’s Day Dad!!
Thank you for giving me one of the greatest gifts, unconditional love and because of your love you welcomed me into communion with my Heavenly Father.
It matters little what form of prayer we adopt or how many words we use. What matters is the faith which lays hold on God, knowing that He knows our needs before we even ask Him. That is what gives Christian prayer its boundless confidence and its joyous certainty.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer
I love this quote from Dietrich Bonhoeffer! Prayer is vital to the Christain life. I daily need to remind myself to intentionally pray and to be present while praying. But, how comforting to know God knows! God is omniscient.
My challenge to my friends…
- Fathers and Fathers-soon-to-be, I humbly challenge you to pray. Pray intentionally. Pray passionately. Pray for and with those you love the most!
- Now… sons and daughters, I humbly challenge you to also pray for your dad’s. They need our love, honor, and respect, but most of all they need our prayers. More than the funny or tech-savvy gifts (though I have some fun gifts in mind!), our fathers need our Heavenly Father too.
Let us become prayer warriors for our loved ones. May we encourage and love each other more and more each day.
Dad, it is a blessing to be your daughter!
