Happy Independence Day from the Buchmann’s!
This year, Alex and I started new traditions for our little family.
Similar to many Americans, we eagerly set out for a beach day with the traditional finale of fireworks.
A Patriotic Breakfast
In the morning we began our day with a delicious little brunch! Patriotic pancakes topped with fresh raspberries and blueberries sprinkled with powdered sugar and drenched in delicious maple syrup. A lovely wife of a college friend posted on social media that every patriotic holiday begins with a patriotic breakfast. My husband was sold!! His first pancake attempt failed miserably. But his second was a beautiful success. Alex and I both hope to instill a love for God and country into our future children. And something as sweet and simple as a pancake breakfast is a beautiful start!
The Beach & A Waboba
Our day continued to the beach! Armed with sunscreen, Spikeball, and a Waboba (a ball that skips on water), we were ready for the fun in the sun!
One of my favorite characteristics of my husband is his joyful heart! Every day is a day to rejoice, and there is so much joy to be had! What a wonderful way to live our lives!
A simple game of catch between my husband, myself, and two Marines, turned into the beach party of the decade. Some twenty, random strangers of all walks of life, found themselves laughing and smiling all because of 3 selfless Marines and a Waboba.
Bringing People together with a Waboba
In this group of strangers, there were at least four different languages being spoken; Spanish, English, and two of which I had no idea (Maybe Scandinavian countries). Luckily for us all, you don’t need many words to throw the water skipping Waboba. There were little girls eager to skip the ball to one of the Marines, and old ladies who joined in the fun were smiling like they were twenty-something again! This massive game of catch brought so many smiles to middle-aged men swimming by themselves as they were suddenly jumping and diving to catch the little Waboba! An elderly couple, who joined the fun, even sought to win a date for their granddaughter with one of the Marines!
On Independence Day, and with a beach full of strangers, a simple game of catch with a Waboba between 3 Marines brought twenty or more people together. Each felt included, special, and encouraged to laugh and love thy neighbor on this special holiday!
The fun naturally ended with a “USA” chant echoing down the Pensacola Beach! Beside us, the foreigners joined in the chant with smiles and laughter. What a wonderful 4th of July!
I was so proud of my wonderful husband and of his fellow Marines who displayed honor, care, and kindness towards all these strangers on the beach.
I know we all will remember throwing that Wababo with complete strangers and hopefully, we will meet again someday!
Naturally concluding with Fireworks!
We concluded our fun at Pensacola Beach and made our way to Flounder’s Crowder House with many more friends! After a tasty dinner, we stepped outside on to the bayside beach
Naturally, we concluded our fun-filled day of laughter, pancakes, and catch with fireworks!
Happy Independence Day my fellow Americans!
The 4th of July is a wonderful day of celebration of freedom! It is also a day to celebrate the signers of the Declaration of Independence! Click here to read my post about their sacrifice.
