Recently, I have stepped up my wife game! What I mean by that is I’ve recently become obsessed with a new TV series, and Alex couldn’t be more pleased with my choice!!! . . . We are now a family of two that is absolutely obsessed with Top Gear and their new Amazon show, The Grand Tour!! Naturally, I love James May due to his love of history and obscure English Poets, but I have a soft spot for Richard Hammond’s enthusiasm and his enjoyment of America. Thus, Alex and I had to try Hammond’s famed Gin & Tonic!
And we love it!
At first, we stayed away from tonic water. Everyone we’d talked to seemed to dislike it with a passion. So our first venture at a gin drink was with sparkling grapefruit juice. GREAT combination!
The Grapefruit Gin & Tonic
- 2 oz Gin
- 4 oz Q Drinks Spectacular Sparkling Grapefruit Soda
So easy, so simple, yet incredibly refreshing, light, and yummy! Dangerously tasty!
After being pleasantly surprised, we decided to try an Original Gin & Tonic.
The Original Gin & Tonic
- 2 oz Gin
- 4 oz Tonic Water
- 1 Tablespoon Lime Juice
- (Garnish with Lime)
Great drink! We purchased ordinary tonic water to pair with our St. Augustine Gin. We did not get fresh limes for our first try but opted to use the bottled lime juice in our refrigerator.
Once again, we were pleasantly surprised with this refreshing drink. It is no wonder Richard Hammond choose this over a heavy beer or dry wine after the crazy adventures the three of them embark on!! (James May drinks beer, and Jeremy Clarkson drinks Rosé!)
Alex and I have enjoyed having a fun TV series to watch on rainy days or lazy days.
To this day, my favorite episode is The Grand Tour: Mongolia Special Montage!! Hands down this is a must-see! In Episode 13 of Season 3, GT explores the vast beauty of Mongolia in an off-road car. However, the 3 friends received this vehicle via helicopter in 3 separate boxes! In a few short days, they – mainly Richard and James, because Jeremy gets “Food and Beverage” duty – assemble their vehicle to travel to their destination of Moron. Over seven days, they cross breathtakingly unique landscapes; and along the way, they name their trusty stead “John.” Such a reliable name! At one point, John pogos up a hill, it is quite a hilarious sight!
I will not share any more details for those who have yet to see it.
Even those who can’t tell a Dodge Viper from a Dodge Durango will still be amazed, awe-struck, and laughing hysterically!
The Blueberry & Mint Gin
- 2 oz Gin
- 4 oz Tonic
- 1 handful of Blueberries
- 4-5 Mint Leaves
Again, so easy and so yummy! I put the tonic, blueberries, and mint leaves in the refrigerator to infuse for 2 hours. We later enjoyed our yummy treat after you guessed it some Grand Tour! The Blueberry & Mint Gin pairs wonderfully with my Blueberry Muffins. Alex and I have enjoyed both for a late evening dessert with friends and family!
The Raspberry & Rosemary Gin
- 2 oz Gin
- 4 oz Tonic
- 1 handful of Raspberries
- 1 stalk of Rosemary
Delicious! This also is a refreshing drink to pair with my also delicious Cranberry & Rosemary Soda Bread. This is a tasty combination for a dinner dessert!
